CREATOR
Hello Friend, it’s
lovely to meet you.
Hi! I am Brindha – firstly thanks so much for visiting my blog, I am so excited to have you here. I created this blog because I love cooking, curating recipes and sharing them with the world. It brings me special happiness to have someone taste and enjoy one of the recipes that I have created.
I am Indian-Bengali and have been born and raised in East London, a corner of London that is so rich in heritage and culture. I am so lucky to have grown up with Indian, Bengali and British ethnic food and so on this page, you will see South Asian food, with influences from a lot of different directions. For example, some of my favorite indian-fusion dishes are indo Chinese chilli paneer and Nepalese dumplings. I love mixing flavours together, and sometimes they are on par with traditional classics like my mum’s amazing Bengali chicken curry, or this authentic lamb chops curry.
Dishes will therefore likely be traditional, easy, modern or South Asian fusion recipes.
My love for food and cooking started when I was a kid. My mum worked a lot of jobs (she is very hardworking!) and so, sometimes, I was the designated responsible sibling for making sure food was cooked! I remember being so excited throughout the day, because I was anticipating making the next meal. My culinary skills were obviously very limited, but even watching a burger brown and crisp up, was highly entertaining.
In the evenings, I spent a lot of time observing my mum making amazing South Asian Food, and assisting where I could, and in that time, I gained a lot more knowledge than I realised! Very quickly, I began getting myself in the kitchen and experimenting.
As I grew up, I wanted to lean into cooking a little bit more and I ran my first cooking class with a cookery school called Made in Hackney, it was a class centred on teaching healthy Indian recipes. I can’t describe HOW much fun it was and in the end, I had an indescribable feeling of fulfilment rooted in the fact that people could learn a little more about Indian food, through my teaching.
I then started taking a real interest in the combination of South Asian food and history, and the stories we can learn through my cultural food. So, I started reading loads (and talking to my parents) about the origins of Chai, Chilli Paneer, Daal (the list goes on) and I was blown away by its historical depth. I am still, to date, learning lots about food history and for me, its a way to connect to my rich heritage.
This new found interest in food and history resulted in being given the opportunity to film a ‘South Asian Food and History’ Workshop with an amazing organisation called ‘South Asian Heritage Month’. Again, this was such a warming experience, to be able to share a combination of family and modern South-Asian recipes.
My goal with this page, is to share easy, home-made and modern South-Asian dishes, from my kitchen to yours.
